Teeth whitening Tips to Transform Your Smile like Models
Top NYC Dentist, Dr. Jonathan Levine shares his secrets.
Foods that stain teeth:
• red wine
• coffee
• tea
• blueberries
• soy sauce
• balsamic vinegar
• tomato sauce
• grape juice
• cranberry juice
• beets
The colored liquids and food attaches via stain molecules, attaching to the biofilm that forms on the teeth in a matter of hours. Some stain molecules attach to the polysaccaride layer of the biofilm like the tanins found in coffee and tea. Removing the stain off of the teeth is most successful when the stain isn't allowed to set too long. When you brush 2X/day and floss every day, the stain doesn't attach well to the teeth because the biofilm has been removed through home care.
Foods that whiten teeth:
• apples
• celery
• carrots
• spinach
• broccoli
• lettuce
These foods help remove stain by exfoliating the stain off of the teeth before the stain molecules have the time to attach deeply to the teeth. They act like a skin scrub for the teeth.
For Grayish Teeth:
• Avoid: Red lipsticks with blue tones
• Try: Cool tones with a brown base or nude pinks with an almost brownish hue
For Yellow Teeth:
• Avoid: Deep, dark shades, bright shades and super shiny glosses
• Try: Pink shades that have blue undertones or nudes
